Welcome to the first issue of Roanoke Development Weekly: a quick look at what’s being built, opening, and changing across the Roanoke Valley.

Each week will be a short breakdown of the biggest updates + a few things I’m keeping an eye on.

📈 Top Story: Tanglewood Crossing

Tanglewood Crossing is finally showing real activity.

Construction equipment has arrived on-site, and new signage has gone up, marking the first real visible movement here since the demolition of existing buildings last year.

The project is planned as a mixed-use development that could include dining, retail, office, wellness, and residential space at the corner of Starkey Rd and Electric Rd.

The newly posted sign points to a Fall 2026 timeline, though projects like this can always evolve.

📢 Opening Spotlight: Kickback Jack’s

Kickback Jack’s is officially headed to the Roanoke area, and the response locally has been huge. The restaurant will be located in the Valley View area, between Buffalo Wild Wings and Grand Home Furnishings.

Known for its casual sports bar atmosphere and large menu, this is one of the more talked-about restaurant additions in recent weeks.

No confirmed opening date yet, but this is clearly one people are watching closely.

🏡 Housing Watch: Harvest at Blue Ridge (Botetourt County)

Planned as a walkable, mixed-use community combining housing, retail, and open space.

Will include a mix of housing types: single-family, cottages, townhomes, and multifamily.

Designed around a “village-style” layout with a future neighborhood center and community gathering spaces. A central lake and preserved elements like the existing silo are expected to be key features.

Groundbreaking is expected later this summer.

🏗️ Development Watch

  • Substantial land clearing underway at Exit 150 (Costco speculation continues)

  • Recent land acquisition on Williamson Rd in the Hollins area tied to LewisGale Medical Center

  • Ongoing infrastructure work around I-581 / Peters Creek related to new signaled intersection

👀 What I’m Watching This Week

Still waiting on tenant announcements for Tanglewood Crossing. This is shaping up to be one of the biggest projects to watch in the Roanoke Valley. What businesses would you want to see announced at Tanglewood Crossing?

🛠️ From the Field

I ended up out at the Salem Qdoba grand opening this week and had a chance to talk with a few people who follow the page, which is always cool to see.

It’s been interesting hearing directly what people are paying attention to right now, especially around new openings and what’s coming next locally.

Appreciate everyone who’s been following along and sharing tips, it definitely helps keep everything moving.

Thanks for being part of the first issue! A lot more to cover in the weeks ahead.

Know someone who follows local development? Feel free to forward this their way.
